Hindustan Motors launches Veer pickup truck

     India’s oldest automobile maker Hindustan Motors is looking for a comeback. The company has launched Veer pickup truck based on the good old Ambassador platform. The Veer pickup truck is priced at an inaugural offer of Rs. 3.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Kolkata) for the diesel variant.


     The Veer Pickup truck has been announced for the Kolkata market which will soon spread to other parts of the country. The vehicle has payload capacity of 800 Kg and is available in both diesel and CNG versions. The vehicle can also be ordered at a drive-away chassis.


     The launch of Veer pickup has not come as a surprise for us as we had posted some spy pictures of this pickup truck in our earlier post.

Hindustan Motors conducting a road show

     India’s oldest car maker Hindustan Motors is conducting a 15 day road show to connect with it customers. During the road show the company will showcase its existing product base and future models. The road show will cover Assam (Guwahati), West Bengal (Durgapur, Siliguri and Asansol), Orissa (Bhubaneswar, Puri, Sambalpur and Bargarh) and Bihar (Patna, Hazipur and surrounding areas).


     The existing models of the company include age old Ambassador and a new LCV Winner. The company will also showcase the new shortened Ambassador which now comes under 4 meters length to get small car excise duty.

New Ambassador Compact Spy Picture

     The good old Ambassador is not coming in a new Avatar, a compact version. Hindustan Motors has chopped off the rear end of the Ambassador to make it come under 4 meter mark to be eligible for small car norm.


     The chopped off rear boot as you can see in the picture could still have space for big baggage. The Ambassador is powered by a 1.5L diesel engine which produces 35 .5 Bhp of power and 13.7 Kgm of torque. The Ambassador Compact is expected in the early January 2012. Will this trick work for the ailing Hindustan Motors? Let’s wait and see.

Hindustan Motors launches new Ambassador Grand at Rs. 7.03 lakh

     India’s older car maker Hindustan Motors has launched new Ambassador Grand priced at Rs. 7.03 lakh (On road Bangalore). The Ambassador Grand is BS4 complaint and provides unmatched space and comfort.


     The Ambassador Grand is powered by a OHC MPFI 1817 cc petrol engine with power of 71 Bhp @ 4800 rpm and torque of 13.7 Kgm @ 2250 rpm. Transmission is through 5 speed manual synchromesh gear box and dry disc clutch type with 215 mm clutch diameter.




The new Ambassador Grand has following special features

• Wheel hub cover
• Smoother door handles
• New tail lights
• Power windows
• Power steering
• State of the art music system
• Charger for your multimedia devices
• More space
• Digital trip meter


     Power steering is optional with 5.4 meter turning radius. The new Ambassador Grand gets Independent suspension with torsion bar springs and anti-roll bar with hydraulic telescopic double acting shock absorbers at the front and Semi elliptical leaf springs with hydraulic telescopic double acting shock absorbers and metallic bushes at the rear.


     The car measures 4325 mm in length, 1662 mm in width, 1593 mm in height. It has wheel base at 2464 mm and ground clearance of 152 mm.. Braking is through Servo assisted front disc and auto adjuster drum at rear. The car rides on 4J x 15 wheel wrapped with 165 / 58 R 15 (Radial) and 165 R-15 tyres


     The new Ambassador comes with 50,000 Kms or 1 year warranty. Seven different colour shades are on offer - Jet Black, Lunar Silver, Fire Brick Red, Oyster Blue, Ecru Beige and Crystal White.

Hindustan Motors to launch small car by July 2011

     India’s oldest automobile manufacturer Hindustan Motors will launch a new small car in Indian market by July this year. The new small car will be built on the same old Ambassador platform and will be available in both hatchback and sedan version. This will the first hatchback vehicle form the manufacturer in it history of over 60 years.

     The hatchback will be smaller than the Ambassador and hence would come under 4 meter length mark to avail excise duty. The new car will be manufactured at HM’s plant at Uttarpara in West Bengal. This seams to be a final attempt by the CK Birla group to come back in the Indian automobile industry.

     It was roumered for a while that HM will join hands with Proton of Malyasia to manufature and sell the latter's cars - Savvy and Saga. But now HM has decided to go on its own and make its own car for Indian market.

HM Ambassador to make a comeback with a new Avatar

Hindustan Motors is working on the Ambassador to give a new fresh look. The car is expected to be on the roads by July 2011. However the re-designed Ambassador will have the same platform with bodywork, interiors and characteristics to be revamped.

Most of the design elements are being worked up by overseas designers and HM is trying hard to preserve the Amby DNA which is great space, comfort  and ease of maintenance. HM has started a online campaign on Facebook to get feedbacks from the the customers and general public. According to the Company, next generation Ambassador will sport “cutting-edge” technology.

Never say die Ambassador

     Hindustan Motors, India's oldest automobile manufacturer is in talks with a foreign company for powertrains for its old work horse Ambassador. Currently the Ambassador sports a 1.5 litre diesel which is getting dated with time. Its 2.0 litre diesel engine is under test at the ARAI for its certification, and the petrol, CNG and LPG engines have been upgraded to BS IV complaint.

     Hindustan Motors is planning to pump in more funds through its non core business/assets to strenthen its finance. It is also expected that the company might increase its stake with its parter Mitsubishi Motors in India.However the company officials declined to confirm any reports.

     HM and Mistubishi JV in India is more than a decade old and offers a unique service of same price for a particular model all over the country under 'One County One Price scheme'. Mitsubishi will launch two new models this year and Lancer Evo sedan will be one of them. The JV will increase their dealerships from existing 16 to 50 during this year.
