Volkswagen developing low cost MQB platform for emerging markets
Volkswagen
is currently developing a low cost MQB platform for a series of low cost models
for emerging markets like India and China.
Volkswagen’s
low cost MQB platform could serve as foundation for Dacia like sub brand which
the company mentioned to create in the upcoming markets.
Volkswagen
is planning to cut costs by using less of high strength steel and aluminium.
There could also be simpler suspension, more basic interior cabins and also
more emphasis on localisation of components depending up on where the car is
assembled.
Volkswagen adds Corporate Edition accessory pack to Vento lineup
The special Corporate Edition accessory pack can be added to any
of the trim levels and will cost Rs. 40,000 extra. The accessory pack contains:

Das WeltAuto, the Volkswagen’s used car business in India
Volkswagen today entered used car business in
India through its subsidiary Das WeltAuto with its first dealership opened in
Mumbai. Currently VW has commenced operations with 15 dealerships across
country which will be increased to 21 by the end of next year.
Das WeltAuto deals not only deals with VW
cars but also cars from all manufactures will be traded. VW with its stringent
160 point checklist ensures the car provides a hassle free ownership
experience. It offers 1 year warranty on all VW cars and 6 months warranty on
non VW cars.
Volkswagen to reposition Skoda brand in India
Good news for Skoda lovers.
Volkswagen has decided to reposition Skoda brand; that is Skoda will be
positioned below the Volkswagen. This can happen only if Skoda car prices are
reduced which is good news. Volkswagen owns Skoda and Audi and all over the
world the parent VW sits between Skoda and Audi in terms of brand value. Here
in India Skoda and Volkswagen have similar brand value which is seriously hampering
Volkswagen’s brand image.
Skoda with its first vehicle in
India ‘Octavia’ has built a reputation of a luxury car maker. The launch of
Superb and Fabia which are best in terms of luxury in their respective class
has put Skoda brand at the top of the chart. The Larua took off from where
Octavia left. Having a good brand value is an asset to the company. But here
the parent company Volkswagen thinks otherwise because Skoda is seriously denting
Volkswagen’s image in India.
Volkswagen known to make quality
cars is struggling to build the brand. Rivals such as Hyundai and Ford are
delivering products which are better value for money cars. Volkswagen cars are
no doubt the best in their class but somehow are not able to sell in numbers
the company expect. With reducing Skoda
car prices Volkswagen can position itself clearly where it deserves to be, but
in India it will take some time, may be another 2 to 3 years.
More powerful VW Polo diesel by 2014
Volkswagen has confirmed that it will launch the Polo with a
more powerful diesel engine in India
by 2014. The new 1.5L diesel engine pumps out 95 Ps of power which is 23 Ps
more than the current 1.2L engine.
The 1.5L diesel
has been developed with the same structure of the current 1.6L 4 cylinder
diesel doing duty in Vento. As the 1.5L engine will be a four cylinder one it
will be quieter than the current 1.2L three pot one.
We feel just by
putting a powerful eninge inot the Polo will work in India .
The Polo, no doubt is a good car, but lacks some factors. The seating is low
which makes difficult to gain entry and out, a strong factor cared by a conservative
Indian customer. The interior space too is not in the league of the B Segment car, so why would anybody buy a
Polo just for driving pleasure. The Swift is a classic example of successful
car in India .
It has good space, good engine, good design and priced competitively. VW should
take a leaf out of Swift success story.
Having seen VW’s
track record of making good cars, we fell the next generation Polo will be here
by 2014 having a 1.5L diesel engine. Of course expect VW to work on the
interior space in the new Polo.

Volkswagen’s latest small car ‘UP!’ has been named as the World Car of the Year 2012 at the ongoing New York Auto Expo. The UP was chosen amongst 34 models which included BMW 3 Series and Porsche 911.
The jury for the award comprises of 64 journalists from 25 countries which ensures unbiased judgment depending on a particular market. The UP! managed to impress the jury with its responsive steering, sophisticated suspension set up, efficient engines, quality of materials and overall finish.
The other winners at the occasion include –
World Car Design of the Year – Range Rover Evoque
World Performance Car of the Year – Porsche 911
World Green Car of the Year – Mercedes-Benz S 250 CDI Blue efficiency

Volkswagen introduces ‘Comfortline’ trim variant of Vento diesel
Acting to the market demand Volkswagen has introduced the mid level Comfortline trim variant of its Vento diesel sedan. Till now the Vento diesel was available in only base Trendline and top Highline variant only. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Neeraj Garg mentioned that, since the Vento launch, customers have been asking for a mid level variant of Vento diesel which the company has fulfilled now.
Apart form the features of Trendline variant, the Comforline is equipped with radio with CD, MP3 player music system, rear center arm rest, fog light front and rear, height adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable outside rear mirror. In addition to this the new variant gets body coloured - door handles and rear view mirrors.
There will be no change under the hood. The Comfortline is powered by the same 1.6ltr, 4-cylinder diesel engine which produces 105 bhp of power at 4400 RPM and 250 Nm of torque at 1500 RPM which is mated with 5 speed gearbox.
The Vento Comforline diesel is priced at Rs. 8.56 lakh ex-showroom Maharashtra and prices in other states will increase by Rs. 18,000. With the introduction of this new variant, Volkswagen aims to gain a good market share in the segment in which it is slowly getting domination.
Volkswagen Up spied in India, could be for Auto Expo 2012
Volkswagen Up which was unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show this year has been spotted in Delhi, mounted on a truck. Mr Sandeep Singh has posted these images on NDTV’s Car And Bike facebook page. We guess the car has been imported from Europe for the coming Auto Expo 2012.
The Up is the smallest car in Volkswagen’s portfolio which the company plans to launch in India soon, ofcourse in 5 door version unlike the 3 door one seen in the picture. Price of the Up is expected to start from Rs. 3.5 lakh. The Up unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show had a 1 litre petrol engine with 75 Ps of power and 23 Kmpl of fuel efficiency. A diesel option, it is still a secret.
Volkswagen Vento facelift spied
It is barely an year old and the Volkswagen has thought to give a facelift to its sedan Vento. Our friends at Motorbeam snapped a spy picture of Vento during its test runs. The Vento facelift comes into the picture soon after Honda City facelift was spied near New Delhi.
The C segment in Indian market is becoming increasingly competitive with the launch of Fluidic Verna, All new Ford Fiesta and the latest Nissan Sunny. Majority of Indians who had bought a hatchback 3-4 years back are planning to upgrade to a sedan which is making the C segment most lucrative after the hatchback.
To remind you, after the launch of Vento within couple of months, the market leader Honda City started to lose its dominance and we see Honda gearing up to launch a City facelift very soon. Also the new entrants in the segment are offering better value for money making the existing players to cut prices and give a facelift to make their cars look fresh amongst the competition.
In the spy picture of Vento, smoked headlamp is clearly visible. The current Vento headlamps come with cristal clear surrounds. Also seen in the picture is the front bumper and grill covered with white camouflage material, which means there will some changes in the front bumper and grill as well. We guess after the launch of Jetta which looks similar to the Vento, Volkswagen is trying give a little different look to Vento to distinguish it from its bigger brother. Apart from changes in the front, we can expect some changes in the rear and interiors as well. We have remote information about the rear and interior changes. Volkswagen's innovative ad campaign for UP outside Frankfurt Motor Show
We all know that Volkswagen published a talking ad in India’s leading news paper Times of India for its sedan Vento. It was an innovative idea which no body till then had thought about it. It might have cost much for Volkswagen, but by the way its Sedan is selling, VW will not complain though.
VW after unveiling its latest small car UP at the Frankfurt Motor Show did some interesting things which is worth watching. Have a look at the video and find out how VW targeted the cars parked outside the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Volkswagen UP unveiled, to debut at Frankfurt Motor Show
In our earlier post we had mentioned about Volkswagen’s plan of debuting its Up small car at Frankfurt Motor Show. Volkswagen has unveiled UP city car before its debut at the auto show. To remind, Volkswagen had showed the Up concept for the first time at the same Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007. After 4 long years, Volkswagen has come up with production ready Up which is now front wheel drive as against earlier shown rear wheel drive concept.
Volkswagen UP is built on Volkswagen’s new MQB platform. The UP measures 3540mmx1420mmx1480mm and can seat 5 persons. It has boot size of 250 liters. Powering the UP will be a 1.0L TSI engine which pumps out 60-75 hp of power.
