Suzuki YRA hatchback revealed, spied without camouflage

Just couple of days ago we had posted about Suzuki YRA hatchback spied with little camouflage. Now pictures of the car without any camouflage have surfaced on the net, probable taken somewhere in Europe.

Suzuki YRA hatch looks much bigger than the Swift and though the front end carries the Suzuki design language, the YRA hatch rear is completely new to the company’s design philosophy. The rear looks more European with raked C pillar, seen first on Suzuki hatches.

Suzuki YRA hatchback will compete with Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. We believe Suzuki will waste no time in bringing the car to India as they are known to capture the market sooner than any other car company.

Suzuki YRA hatchback will be positioned above Swift and expected to be priced around Rs. 8 lakh. It is expected to come with 1.2 and 1.4L petrol engines and 1.3L DDiS diesel.

Next generation Suzuki Alto unveiled in Japan, for Japan market

World’s largest small car maker Suzuki has released images of the next generation Alto for Japanese markets. The next generation Suzuki Alto will be launched in Japan on December 22, 2014. It will replace the earlier model which made its debut in 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. Will it come to India, probably not as Maruti has recently launched the Alto K10, which is basically a modified Alto 800.

Looking at the design Suzuki designers have tried to give a distinct identity to the car. The unusual shaped headlamp, fiat inspired front grill and upward kinking of rear door window is something we see for the first time in a Suzuki car. There also a sportier looking model with dual tone colours theme with black bumpers, hood scoop and side cladding.

The new Suzuki Alto could be powered by the same 660cc 3 cylinder petrol engine that pumps out 54 Ps of power at 6,500 rpm and 63 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. It might also get a CVT gearbox along with 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic.

The most interesting fact is the new Suzuki Alto will be offered in 2 and 4 Wheel Drive options. Fuel efficiency is expected at 21 Kmpl. A more powerful turbocharged engine is also on the offer.

A small car with 4 WD option? That’s the vehicle suited for India roads. Suzuki, are you listening.

Suzuki Wagon R MPV concept unveiled at 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show

In a surprise move, Suzuki unveiled a Wagon R MPV concept at the recently concluded Indonesia International Motor Show 2013. High demand of MPVs in Indonesia could have prompted Suzuki to develop a mpv concept on Wagon R platform, that could cater to the lower end of the mpv segment in the country.

Datsun and Honda had shown their MPVs based on GO and Brio hatchbacks in the beginning of the show. With Ertiga sitting on the top end of MPV segment, Suzuki seriously had a deficiency in the entry level mpv segment. As seen from the picture, a few millimetres have to added to Wagon R to accommodate the third row of seats. Company sources reveal, there has been no change in the wheelbase of the car.

Davy Tuilan, Marketing Director of PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales, says - “It’s still a concept and no decision has been made”. However, it has been confirmed that if this Wagon R goes into production, it would be a contender for the Indonesian LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) project, thereby availing some tax benefits.

Since he is speaking of tax benefits, will the Wagon R MPV come to India?. Suzuki might consider bringing it to India to keep the aging Wagon R going. Without a diesel engine it would be hard for Suzuki to convince its buyers for a mini MPV.

Suzuki iV-4 concept SUV unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show 2013

Maruti’s mini SUV, the Alfa XA will be built on Suzuki iV-4 concept

Suzuki unveiled an out-of-the-age SUV iV-4 concept at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show 2013. The Suzuki iV-4 concept forms the base of the compact SUV, which Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch in India. Earlier Maruti Suzuki had showed a mini SUV concept named Alpha XA  with looks very similar to the iV-4 concept.

The usage of ‘i’ in the vehicle/concept name has become a common term by automobile manufacturers these days. Hyundai and BMW are the other two companies which uses ‘i’ in their vehicle naming trend. Eg: Hyundai i10, i20 etc and BMW i3 and i8. Here in Suzuki iV-4 concept, the ‘i’ stands for individuality, V stands for Vehicle and the 4 represents all wheel drive system. With Suzuki iV-4 concept, Suzuki launches an all new all wheel drive technology termed “Allgrip”. According to the company “Allgrip” will offer a combination of design and off-road performance that goes beyond a typical city SUV.

Though Suzuki iV-4 concept is an all wheel drive vehicle, Maruti’s mini SUV in India might not get the all wheel drive options, at least not in the near future.

Suzuki to exit US market, files for bankruptcy

The Suzuki brand may be big in India but on the other side of the world it is facing big problems. Suzuki operates in the name of American Suzuki Motor Corporation in USA which has filed for bankruptcy. The ASMC is facing low volume sales from past 2-3 years and its latest models SX4, Kizashi and Grand Vitara has not managed to pull the company from losses.

Suzuki mentioned that it was difficult to make decision to stop selling its car in US but it was inevitable under current situations. However Suzuki will continue to sell motorcycles, all terrain vehicles and marine outboard in the US market. The bankruptcy doesn’t involve the parent Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan. ASMC debt ranges from $100 to $500 million.

A Suzuki statement -
These challenges include low sales volumes, a limited number of models in its line-up, unfavourable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental U.S. and the disproportionally high and increasing costs associated with stringent state and federal regulatory requirements unique to the U.S. market.”

Suzuki S-Cross Concept, will it replace the aging SX4?

Suzuki will display its new S-Cross Concept at the Paris Motor Show this September. No much details are available but from the official sketch and teaser it looks to be a C Segment cross over and might replace the aging SX4.

Seen from the sketch, teh S-Cross Concept resembles the Kizashi concept from the front. The teaser image shows the protective body moulding and skid plate under the car’s front, but nothing can be confirmed till we see the production version.

Suzuki badly needs a SX4 replacement, expecially in Inida. The new enternts like Fluidic Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Nissan Sunny and soon to be launched Renault Scala have almost pushed the SX4 to the sideline. Suzuki also need a bigger diesel engine for its future SX4 and we hope with the new concept Suzuki might as well develop its own 1.6L diesel motor!

Suzuki to buy Fiat’s 1.6L Multijet diesel engine

In what could a dramatic development, Suzuki has agreed to buy Fiat’s 1.6L diesel engine to mount on a new car to be built in Hungary in 2013.

Suzuki is tightlipped about the new car but we guess it would be a crossover based on the SX4 platform. Will Suzuki bring the 1.6L diesel engine to India? there is no news about it as of now.

An SX4 with 1.6L diesel engine would be a great option considering the car and Maruti’s popularity in India. Bigger tyres, high ground clearance and masculine looks of SX4 with power of a 1.6L diesel could have been a perfect recipe for Indian conditions. Who knows, Suzuki might consider the 1.6L diesel SX4 in India at a later date.

What is more interesting is Suzuki not opting for VW’s 1.6 TDi. VW and Suzuki are in collaborative terms for mutual benefits and everyone in the auto industry had expected Suzuki to use the VW’s 1.6L TDi diesel engine. Choosing the Fiat’s 1.6L instead of VW’s 1.6 TDi has come as a surprise!

2012 Suzuki GS150R facelift spied

Suzuki is a well know motorcycle brand all over the world. But some how it is not able to take off in the Indian market. First there was Zeus facelift called SlingShot and SlingShot Plus and now we have come up with some spy pictures of GS150R. However the GS150R facelift will just be change in the graphics and nothing else.

Though the GS150R is a good bike, it has been over shadowed by the Pulsar maina and Yamaha FZ series. The eninge of GS150R is smooth and refined and the 6 speed gearbox is unmatchable in the segment. Perhaps its the Suzuki's marketing which is not getting the company its desired results. Hope the GS150R facelift does some trick.

Have a look at the Suzuki GS150R

Scoop: 2011 Suzuki Swift caught without camouflage

The spy pictures of the next generation Suzuki Swift has been doing rounds in the net for a while. But nothing like this pictures without camouflage had surfaced earlier. The pictures show the rear end of the Swift which looks similar to the present model with little modifications. The tail lights tapper with more angular edges and blend neatly with the boot. With these image we can comment little on the car but Suzuki would have done their job to provide good leg space at the rear which is lacking in the present model.
