More spy pictures and video of Chevrolet (GM) mini-van being tested in India

     We in our earlier post had showed you the spy pictures of the GM mini-van being tested in India. Digitosam of Team-Bhp has managed to click more detailed pictures of the mini-van.  Indianautosblog went further to post a video of the mini-van doing testing in city traffic.

GM's new mini-van spied in India

Guess what we have got for you? Its the new mini-van from the General Motors for Indian market. The mini-van you see in the picture is called as Wuling Hong Tu in China. GM has partnered with Wuling Motors of China to build and sell the later's vehicles in India.







The mini-van will be positioned to rial against Maruti Eeco. It is powered by a 1.2 Liter petrol engine with 85 Bhp of power. It will be less than 4 meter length and hence will qualify for the small car norm to avail the excise benefits in India. The engine is coupled with a 5 speed manual transmission. The base variant has rear leaf spring suspension while the top variant gets coil springs.


GM also has plans to launch various models from the Wuling range. These vehicles  are expected to be price competitive and is likely to give stiff competition to the market leader Maruti Suzuki.

General Motors to slowly phase out Aveo in India

     General Motors India is planning to slowly phase out its mid size family car Chevrolet Aveo which will be replaced by a new model. The new model will be T type car of the Chevrolet’s 300 series platform.


     Chevrolet has confirmed that the existing Aveo will not receive any upgrades. Chevrolet recently launched a CNG variant of Aveo at the Auto Expo 2010.

General Motors to stop Hummer production

     A sad news for Hummer fans! General Motors which owns the Hummer brand has decided to stop Hummer production and to wind off operations associated with Hummer brand.

     General Motors has been in talks with China based Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. Ltd., which showed interest in buying the Hummer brand. However the talks failed and the US auto major decided to wind off the Hummer operations.

     Not to forget, General Motors had filed for bankrupcy last year due to recession and started selling its sub brands to mobilise money to sustain in the industry. General Motors was succesful in selling SAAB brand to Spyker earlier this week.

     General Motors now wants to focus on its other brands, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac and want to work with Hummber employees, dealers and suppliers to wind down the business in an orderly and responsible manner. The company will continue to provide service support and spare parts to current Hummer owners around the world.

General Motors increases the price of its 4 models

     In the midst of Auto Expo 2010 going on, General Motors has increase the prices of its 4 models by 0.5-1.5% citing steep rise in input costs. The price rise will be on the Spark, Aveo, Cruz and Tavera where as the prices of Captiva, Optra and Aveo U-VA will be not affected.

Press Release:

"The increasing input cost has been the biggest concern for us for the last six months. After the commodity prices reached its bottom last year, all materials like steel, rubber and aluminum are rising now," GM India sales Director Sumit Sawhney told reporters after the launch of Chevrolet Beat.
