However the scheme ended on the 31st of December and we will have to see how the sales fares in the month of January 2011. Tata Motors has invested heavily on its Sanand plant which has a manufacturing capacity of 2,60,000 units per annum.

Tata Motors is also planning to launch an upgraded version of Nano which comes with power steering and 5 speed gear box. The upgraded version is undergoing testing at the plant and will be only available after 15th of January 2010. A diesel Nano is also on the cards but we will have to wait for a while to see it on our roads.

Scoop: Next Gen Dzire to be under 4 meters

Maruti is going the Tata way. Like Tata's designed a Indigo less than 4 meters, the next generation Dizre based on the all new Swift platform will be less than 4 meters length. This means the car will qualify for small car excise duty exemption which is 10% for a small car as compared to 22% for the cars above 4 meters.

The new Dzire will be powered by the same 1.2 L , 84 Bhp petrol engine and 1.3L, 75 Bhp diesel mill. A more powerful diesel engine with 90 Bhp power sourced from Fiat is also on the cards.

The Dzire is designed in-house by Maruti and will be sold only in India. Since the all-new Swift platform has bigger dimensions than its earlier model, engineers at Maruti have a challenging job to fit a boot with less than 4 meter in length. The excise benefit with is around Rs. 40,000/- will be passed on to the customer. The new Dizre will be launched soon after the new Swift which will make its appearance on roads by June this year.

Maruti Suzuki min SUV launch in India by 2012

India's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has hinted about the launch of a mini SUV in Indian market. The company is finding hard to maintain its 50% share in Indian market, thanks to the launch of small cars from Chevrolet, Ford and Nissan. Inspite of though going in the last 2-3 months of 2010, it managed to register double digit growth which is phenonmenal.

Suzuki, the parent company of Maruti Suzuki has currently one mini SUV in its portfolio - "Jimny". It is more likely that Jimny will be launched as a mini SUV in India. Jimny, sold in Japan is powered by a petrol engine will find a diesel heart in India as petrol SUVs are not percieved well in India. The diesel engine could be the same 1.3 DDiS currenty powering Swift, Ritz and Dizre cars or it could be outsoured from Volkswagen.

A little modifications in the body can be expected to make it a four doored vehicle. Again, since Jimny is a two doored vehicle, it will not be well percieved by the Indians.
