Scoop: Next Generation Hyundai i10 spied in India

     India’s largest selling automobile magazine Autocarindia has yet again come out with a scoop. This time it is next generation Hyundai being tested in India amid heavy camouflage. Couple of weeks ago the next gen i10 was spied somewhere in Europe and the pictures were published in an international automobile site.

     The prototype features a new bumper with large air intakes, swept back headlamps, upward sweeping shoulder line and a sloping roofline. The car seems to be wider from the rear angle picture.

     Next Gen Hyundai i10 was rumoured to be displayed at 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. But as we see the prototype being tested in India, the launch could be sooner than expected. Hyundai might as well consider launching a diesel version in India seeing the demand for diesel cars here. Hyundai i10 diesel is what Indian customers are looking for, so can we assume finally there is vehicle in the making to compete the invincible Swift?

TVS to launch Phoenix 125cc motorcycle soon, appears in a video

     TVS Motors has been testing a 125cc commuter motorcycle to be launched in India soon. The bike is named a Phoenix 125 which is basically the street version of Radeon 125 concept shown earlier this year at Auto Expo 2012. This is the second motorcycle from TVS Motors in 125cc segment and caters to increasing demand of commuter motorcycles in India. We came across a video of Phoenix 125; probable could be a dealer video show from Thailand.

The new TVS Phoenix 125 comes with range of features such as:

* Clear lens headlamp with pilot lamps
* Digital instrumentation console that comes with a range of functions like distance covered, speed, trip meter and a fuel guage.
* LED tail lamp
* Dual spring rear suspension
* Petal disc brake
* Alloy Wheels
* Electric Start

     The motorcycle will be powered by the same Flame SR125 engine. The Flame’s 125cc, 4 stroke engine which operates through 3 valves produces peak power of 10.5 Bhp and peak torque of 10 Nm. The engine is mated to a four speed gearbox.

     With loads of features, TVS Phoenix 125 will give tough competition for Honda Shine and Bajaj Discover 125 ahead.

Maruti all geared to launch new 800

     In spite of having problems at it Manesar plant Maruti Suzuki is leaving no stones unturned to launch its bread and butter car ‘800’ in a new avatar. The car, as you see picture might have already reached some dealers which means the launch is going to be very soon. Earlier, the New Maruti 800 was slated for a Diwali launch this year.

     As seen from the picture, we feel Maruti has tried to copy not one but many cars. The rear tail lamps and side profile reminds us of the Hyundai i20. In the front, the headlamps looks to be copied from Figo and looking closer don’t you think the grill/airdam has been lifted from Renault Pulse/Scala? You can see side cresses going from front to back and wheel arch bulges look prominent. Whatever, Maruti Suzuki has tried to bring in a better designed car than the earlier 800 at an affordable cost. Though we think Maruti could have done a better job.

     The interior is likely to be lifted from Alto, which means almost similar dashboard and headrest integrated seats. The new Maruti 800 will replace the Alto LXi where as the Alto K10 continues to be sold. The same 796cc 3 Cylinder engine of Alto which has been modified to meet the emission norms will power the new 800. Maruti is likely to price the new 800 below Rs. 2 lakh to compete with Tata Nano.

Toyota Etios Liva gets beige interiors

     Toyota has upgraded its Etios Liva hatchback with beige interiors. Now the dashboard and door pads get beige treatment adding little bit of premium feel to the car.

     It has almost a year since Toyota launched the Etios Liva hatchback and as everyone expected the car to compete against the market leader Swift, it could not live up to the expectations. The main let back of the Etios twins was their shoddy interiors. The dashboard looked no better than a Alto and customers turned away with its looks thought it was built by a Toyota. Toyota has responded to the customer feedback with beige interiors which will please B Segment car buyers.

     Though Toyota is responding to customer feedback we feel it lost a good opportunity with Etios in India. We guess the Japanese underestimated the Indian customer sentiment of buying a car thinking that, a not so good looking car with a good quality reputation of Toyota can sell well in spite of pricing it high. Hyundai has set a classic example of understanding the buyer’s sentiment. Off late Hyundai has launched some good looking cars in India and in spite of high price of ownership experience people are making a beeline to own a Hyundai. Verna, i20 and Eon are no better than its competitors but still well because of its design and functionality. We hope Toyota gets good market analyzer in India.
