Honda BR-V SUV makes its international debut
Honda has
unveiled its new SUV BR-V at GAIKINDO
Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2015. The BR-V SUV is built on Brio platform
and will be launched in India early next year. But the speculation of BR-V
being less than 4 meters length has gone into winds. BR-V is more than 4 meters
in length and seats 7 persons, which means it will compete with Renault Duster,
Nissan Terrano and Hyundai Creta in India.
The design
of Honda BR-V was released last month and the artist’s impression looked
fabulous, as always with any Honda car sketches. However BR-V in flesh is not
as dynamic as in the design sketch but certainly have good appeal, with both
SUV and Car features mixed together.
From the
side profile it is evident that BR-V is built on the Brio platform. But from
any other angle it is impossible to relate to Brio and its siblings, thanks to
sharp SUV design in the front and rear. BR-V features a more squarish profile
and the angled window line reminds us of the Mobilio. As usual the BR-V like
any recent Hondas has lot of creases which give character to the vehicle.
The
dashboard of BR-V looks to be borrowed from the City and the steering wheel has
been lifted from Brio family of vehicles. Honda BR-V has an advantage of 7 seat
options which lacks in its competitors in the segment. Powering BR-V will be
Honda’s 1.5L i-VTech petrol and i-Dtech diesel engines which are both tried and
tested engines. Expect it to cost around Rs. 12 lakh when launched in India.

Honda unveils all new Fuel Cell Vehicle concept in Japan
Honda
has unveiled an all new Fuel Cell Vehicle concept in Japan which is expected to be
launched in Japanese market by early 2016. Honda aims to sell the FCV concept
in international markets as well, especially North America and Europe in
future.
Honda
FCV concept is the second concept from Honda. The first being the FCX Clarity
which was shown at Los Angeles Auto Show 2013.
The
FCV is powered by an electric motor which does 134 bhp, an increase in 60%
compared to the FCX Clarity. The fuel stack size of FCV concept has also been
reduced by 33%.
According to Honda, FCV is the first vehicle
to feature an entire fuel cell powertrain in its engine bay. Honda claims FCV can
do 482 Km with full tank of fuel and refuelling time has been redued to just 3
to 5 minutes.
Competing FCV concept will be Toyota’s
fuel cell car Mirai, and Hyundai’s hydrogen powered ix35.
New Honda Jazz India launch confirmed for March 2015
Honda Cars India has
confirmed the launch of new Jazz in March 2015. Honda has made it clear that it
will price the car competitively so that it does not repeat the mistake it did
when the old Jazz was launched in India.
The good news about the new
Jazz is that it will come with a diesel option. The first generation Jazz
lacked a diesel option and lost out to its competitors such as Hyundai i20 and
Volkswagen Polo who give a diesel option right from the beginning. The Jazz
being a highly engineered vehicle stands firm in Honda’s product portfolio for India.
With its futuristic styling
and superb engineering Jazz is going to be the super hatch for India, the
segment which is opening its potential of late.
Honda becomes 3rd largest car manufacturer in India
Honda Cars India Ltd. has
overtaken Mahindra to becoming 3rd largest car manufacturer for the
month of July 2014. Last year Mahindra had overthorned Tata Motors to gain the
second spot and how Honda has done the same thing what Mahindra did to Tata
Motors. With this Tata Motors is in the 5th place with Maruti Suzuki
leading followed by Hyundai.
Now the top 3 car
manufacturers in India are Multinationals reflecting Indian customer sentiments
towards foreign manufactures, purely because of the technological brilliance.
Honda with its new launches
(All new City and Mobilio) is surely a strong competitor to Hyundai. Honda also
has plans to launch a small car below Brio and an SUV based on Brio platform in
couple of years. With those models coming, the current equation might change
and who knows Honda might be the numero uno in 3-4 years in India!
