New Volkswagen Jetta India launch on 17th August

Volkswagen India will launch the new Jetta on 17th of August this year. The new Volkswagen Jetta resembles its lower brother Vento from the front, though the rear tail lamps will clearly differentiate the two. However the new Jetta is much bigger than the Vento as well as the current Jetta. We had in our earlier post showed you some of the spy pictures of new Jetta being tested on Indian soil.

News is that the new Jetta will be available only in diesel avatar but a petrol engine Jetta cannot be ruled out. The 2.0L TDI diesel with 140 Ps will power the new Jetta. Automatic transmission will be through 6 speed DSG gearbox, but a manual transmission model could also be offered as a lower spec variant.

The current Jetta looks very dated and Volkswagen is finding hard in the car sales. The new Jetta promises good sales for Volkswagen in India. The new Jetta will compete with Skoda Laura, Renault Fluence, Chevrolet Cruze and Honda Civic in India. Expect the new Jetta to be costlier than its rival and come with loaded features.

2012 Volkswagen Beetle – the grown up bug unveiled

Volkswagen unveiled its iconic Beetle at shanghai in a new avatar which is slated for 2012 launch. The car was simultaneously unveiled at New York and an event was organised in Berlin as well. 2012 Beetle as it is called is based on the ‘New Beetle’ which was introduced in 1998 and sold over million units before it was discontinued last year. From every angle the car resembles the old Beetle launched in 1969 though the company emphasizes that everything from an inch has been re-designed.

The 2012 Beetle’s is 4278mm long, 1808mm wide and 1486mm tall which means it is longer, broader and shorter than the previous model. The car designed under direction of VW Group design chief Walter de’Silva and VW brand design boss Klaus Bischoff gets sharper, squarer bumpers and a more rakish roofline making it to look more masculine. Klaus Bischoff says that he has done everything that he could to make the car appeal to the male audience.

The major changes are in the interior and the rear of the car. The round cute looking tail lamps are replaced by a sportier semi-circular one. A tiny spoiler on the end of the rear window indeed makes it a man’s car.

Under the hood of the 2012 Beetle are 3 petrol and 2 diesel engine options. The petrol engines with 1.2L, 1.4L and 2.0L capacity produces 103 Bhp, 158 Bhp and 197 Bhp respectively. The diesel engines have capacity of 1.6L and 2.0L with power of 103 Bhp and 138 Bhp respectively. Transmission is to the front wheel through 6 speed manual gear box though VW’s seven speed dual clutch transmission will be offered as an option.

Volkswagen Blue Motion Technologies in Passat

Volkswagen launched it Passat with new Blue Motion Technology. So what is Blue Motion Technology? Blue Motion technology reduces the carbon footprint of the car drastically and enhances fuel effecieny and still maintains the fun for driving.

The Blue Motion Technologies incorporated in the all new Passat

Optimized Gear Ratios:
The smart technology helps the manual and DSG transmission to optimize for longer ratios, early upshifts and delayed downshifts for increased energy efficiency for smarter drivability.

Auto Start Stop:
The Auto Start stop mechanism works mainly during city traffic. The engine automatically turns off when you take the foot off the clutch in case of manual transmission. In case of DSG transmission the engine shuts of when you take the foot off the accelerator. With the depressing of the clutch (manual transmission) or accelerator (DSG transmission) the engine restarts automatically. In the process precious fuel is saved automatically.

Brake Energy Recuperation:
During braking, the kinetic energy is converted into electricity and stored in the battery. So the act of braking recharges the battery – the more you brake, the further you can go.

Gear Shift Indicator:
This feature helps the driver to shift gears at optimum time preventing the energy loss while shifting gears. This inturn adds up to the fuel efficiency.

Volkswagen to sell A-Star under its brand globally

First of all let us remind that last year VW bought a substantial 20% stake in Suzuki Motor Company. The deal was seen as a mutual understanding to benifit both the companies. Though no future plans were revealed by the two companies, lots of speculations about technology transfer were anticipated.

One such thing is the sale of Suzuki small cars under Volkswagen brand. According to latest reports Volkswagen will sell Suzuki A Star which is popular grobally already under its own brand name. That is A Star will be sold as Volkswagen A Star worldwide. Currently A Star is manufactured in Maruti Suzuki's plant in India and exported to other parts of the world. Maruti Suzuki also manufacture A Star for Nissan which is sold globally as Nissan Pixo.

Volkswagen will be benifit with low cost small car manufacturing expertise of Suzuki. Volkswagen's sister company Skoda Auto is also likely to use its brand on some of the Suzuki smalls. With these development it looks obvious that VW is determined to dethrone Totoya as world's No. 1 automobile manufacturer by 2018.

Though this is not official, Suzuki might get access to VW's technologically advanced diesel engines. Currently Suzuki has only 1.3L multijet engine sourced from Fiat for its small cars and the company is finding difficult to fit the same engine is the mid-sized sedan as well. With the access to VW's diesel engines Suzuki will have an option to power its mid-sized saloons with a diesel mill, the main segment which it is lacking in. Though SX4 diesel has been launched, the company feels insecured as the cometititors are offereing a bigger and powerful diesel engine. The latest entry from Maruti Suzuki 'Kizashi' might as well get a VW diesel engine in future.
