Maruti to officially stop 800 production, a successor to be launched soon

After 30 years from its launch, India’s people car Maruti 800 will be officially stop from production from by this April end. Maruti 800 success story is one of the important one in India’s growth history.
It all started in early 80’s, thank to Mr. Sanjay Gandhi for bringing in an affordable car for every Indian. Maruti tied up with Suzuki and signed an agreement on 2nd October 1982. The first Maruti 800 was priced at Rs. 52,000/- and was owned by an Air India official.

Though the car did not gain momentum initially because of its fragile body as compared to Ambassadors and Fiats, slowly people discovered Maruti’s easy drivability and practicality. Maruti 800 has undergone many changes to suit the market requirements and no wonder it stands in the league of Henry Ford’s Model T and Volkswagen Beetle.

Maruti 800 was stopped from 13 cities in India because of non compliance of BSIV emission norms. The car continued to be sold in tier II cities and managed to sell 2000 units even to this day.

Now Maruti management has decided to stop the car from production and launch a successor to it. It will be a new car and will not bear the name ‘800’, which means Maruti 800 will remain has a history in future.

Few months ago, a spy picture was taken at Maruti’s Gurgaon factory of a new car which looked like the Alto with some changes. The car could be the next generation 800 and is likely to be powered by a two cylinder petrol engine. Expect the car to be priced around Rs. 2 lakh. Tata Nano, finally you are getting a competitor!

Tata Indica with 90 Ps 1.3L Multi-jet spied

Tata Motors has been exploring all possibilities on its Indica platform and this latest spy picture of Indica with changes to the front is one of the classic examples. From the picture the front of the Indica gets the Indigo CS treatment with double barrel headlamps, wider grill and prominent bumper.

The major change is under the hood. From the badge on the rear and side it is evident that Indica now gets 90 Ps 1.3 L Multi-jet diesel engines. Till now Indica was available with 1.4L TDi and Turbo engine and a 1.3L Multi-jet diesel was long awaited. With the new engine, the price of Indica will go up which might not be a good news for cab drivers. Indica with power steering ss presently available at Rs. 5.75 lakh on-road Bangalore which might go up to Rs. 6.50 lakh with the new engine.

Tata Indica has been a very good vehicle in terms of price factor. The running cost of Indica very cheap, no wonder cabbies prefer it to any other cars. Indica offers good interior space as well and can seat 5 persons in good comfort. With the new engine there will be a big boost in Indica’s performance, which it lacked right from its inception.

Mercedes Benz slips to third place in Indian luxury car market

Once the market leader Mercedes Benz has now slipped to the third place in Indian luxury car market. Not to forget, Mercedes Benz was the first luxury car company to venture into India when the market here was just in an infancy. With some innovative marketing plans and rock solid product, Mercedes managed to sell good number of cars and dominated the segment for a long time.

With India's economy booming and more people started going form luxury cars, the other two German luxury car makers BMW and Audi sensed the booming market and entered in India, though slowly. With slew of new launches the late entrants managed to car a niche for themselves and got recognized as a premium car brands in the minds of Indians.

Mercedes poor performance in recent times is lack of new models. The C,E and S class are the same models sold from past 15 years, though the design and styling have been changed. To be frank, we feel Mercedes cars looked better 10 years back as compared to the present ones. Mercedes SUVs M and G Class could not make an impact on India's because of there sheer price and being not so practical. Other the other hand BMW and Audi launched their new models both in sedan as well as SUV segments. The latest launches from BMW and Audi which are mini SUV have made Indians to stretch a bit to go for a premium luxury brand. With next generation of cars in the pipeline, namely the all new A and B class, Mercedes is seriously thinking of bounce back.
