25 KMPL mileage now on the new Tata Indigo e-CS VX
  • 25 kmpl mileage achieved with five technological advancements
  • New CR4 engine with smart engine management chip
  • Class defining features and new interiors
Tata Motors today launched the Tata Indigo e-CS VX, the most fuel-efficient sedan in the country, with a mileage of 25 kmpl, certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). With a host of other exciting features in the car, the Tata Indigo e-CS VX is a new trim in the Tata Indigo e-CS range.

It sports the all new CR4 Common Rail Diesel engine that has a displacement of 1396 cc delivering 70 PS @ 4000 RPM. With a higher torque of 140 NM at a lower 1800-3000 RPM, improvements in gear ratios, clutch-to-start and reduction in the weight of the car by around 10 kg, the Tata Indigo e-CS VX ensures better pickup.

The Tata Indigo e-CS VX is also available with the MPFi petrol engine. Both these engines are compliant with BS4 emission norms.

This mileage of 25 kmpl in the CR4 Common Rail Diesel engine is hinged on five technological advancements.

  1. SMART EMS (Engine Management System) CHIP that involves perfectly calibrating engine components every micro second to optimise functionality -- right from valve timing to compression ratios, to pressure volume ratios, to air fuel mixture, flawlessly synchronising every engine function to deliver 25 kmpl mileage.
  2. MAXIMUM CHARGE COMBUSTION - An innovatively designed engine head, block and piston assembly that ensures effective intake and circulation of charge (mixture of air and fuel), thereby minimising pumping friction losses. The result is maximum combustion of charge, increased efficiency and power.
  3. DRAG REDUCTION - Redesigned wheel arches and subtle alterations on the exteriors, combined with a lighter shell and engine, have collectively contributed to making the car more aerodynamic, reducing the drag coefficient.
  4. TRANSAXLE (Gear Box) - With optimised Gear ratios to give best fuel efficiency and driveability together.
  5. TYRES - For drag / rolling losses reduction, optimised tyres were developed which provide low rolling losses coupled with good riding comfort and handling.
Other class defining features in the Tata Indigo e-CX VX are stylish R14 alloy wheels, satin finish front grill, headlamps and ORVM with blinkers. They, coupled with body coloured bumpers and chrome inserts on the rub rails, endow it with head turning looks.

The interiors have been enriched with dual-tone beige seating and dashboard, premium wood-finish centre console, new instrument cluster with chrome rings and rear centre armrest for enhanced comfort. The plushness is enhanced with keyless entry, ABS, Bluetooth connectivity and electrical controls for ORVMs, besides carrying forward the comfortable AC, power steering and power windows.

The car comes with a warranty of 18 months and unlimited kms, for private usage.

The Tata Indigo e-CS VX is priced at Rs. 580,339 (ex-showroom Delhi), for the CR4 diesel engine and the Tata Indigo e-CS GVX is priced at Rs. 497,727 (ex-showroom Delhi), for the MPFi petrol engine.

The Tata Indigo CS has dominated the entry mid-size segment in the country for almost 4 years with its proposition of being the most compact sedan in the market. It has been appreciated for its classy styling as much as the great value proposition that it offers at an unbeatable price to a sedan aspirant.

Maruti R3 MPV named Ertiga

The much awaited Maruti MPV, which till now was known by its codename R3 has been named Ertiga. The latest spy picture from Autocarindia shows the Ertiga badge on the rear of the MPV. In our earlier post we has showed many spy pictures of Ertiga being tested on road.

The Ertiga MPV has been designed keeping in mind the big Indian families families who look for more space and practicality. Unlike Eeco, the Ertiga is not just another MPV with 3 rows of seats. This front wheel drive Ertiga has been designed to look and drive like a car with quality interiors making it an appealing family car.

Look at the Ertiga from the front; you will know it is a Suzuki product. The Ertiga shares lots of design cues from Suzuki’s other products Swift and Ritz. However, the Ertiga is much wider and bulkier than its hatchback siblings.

The wheel base of the Ertiga has been stretched from that of the Ritz by 380mm, which now stands at 2740mm. The height of the vehicle has also been increased. The ribbed roof has been designed to give more strength. The rear glass has a wraparound look giving Ertiga a pillar less look from the back. The tail lamps though are small for such a big vehicle.

In the interior the dashboard looks exactly like that of the new Swift including the steering wheel. There is no electronic climate control, not even in the top end ZXi and ZDi variants. We guess Maruti has done so to keep the cost low and competitive. However there is roof-mounted blower to the second and third row of seats, just like the one is Xylo. The Ertiga measures 4265mm long which means it will not come under small car category.

Two engine options – petrol and diesel will be available. The company has designed a new K14 petrol eninge which makes its debut in Ertiga. The 1372cc K14 petrol engine makes a decent 95 Bhp of power and 13 Kgm of torque. The diesel engine in the offer is the same one lifted from SX4 which has a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) pushing the power to 89 Bhp.

Though the vehicle is ready and undergoing final test runs on the road, it will only be launched at the Auto Expo 2012. Expected to be priced under Rs. 10 lakh for the top end variant, it will surely give a strong competition to the market leader Toyota Innova.

Range Rover Evoque spied in India

The latest from Land Rover stable Range Rover Evoque was spied testing in Pune. The Range Rover Evoque seen in the picture is a 3 door version, but we feel the 5 door version of the vehicle will make it to India by Diwali this year.

The Range Rover Evoque has been designed like a coupe, like the Honda CR-V, which has a silhouette coupe like silhouette. It is powered by a 2.2L engine which pumps out 150-190 Bhp of power. The Evoque could be available in both 4x2 and 4x4 drive options. Expect the Evoque to be priced above Rs. 50 lakh because of high import duties.

Fiat Panda, the best competitor for Wagon R in India

Just few days ago, Fiat revealed the all new third generation Panda before its international debut at Frankfurt Motor Show starting this month. The next generation Panda looks brilliant with redesigned front fascia which is now more rounded. The new Panda all together looks prettier with its smooth contours.

The Panda has been since 1980 and Fiat has till now sold over 6.5 lakh units of Panda worldwide. The basic architecture of the Panda – tall boy design remains which means ample headroom for passengers.

With the new Panda being sold in European markets in couple of months, we though why should Fiat not think about launching the car in India, well of course to compete with 2nd largest selling car in Indian – Wagon R.

Wagon R when launched was criticized for its boxy look but slowly people started liking it because of its practicality, low maintain ace and easy to drive in traffic. The biggest advantage of Wagon R was for tall drivers who were seeking a car to drive without their legs cramped. Elderly people too found it easy to get in and out. The Wagon R’s headroom is superb with tall passengers need not duct to sit. The main drawback of Wagon R is its shape which is boxy even after couple of facelifts.

The Panda with its dimensions similar to Wagon R can be its serious challenger in India. We feel Fiat has one more opportunity bounce back in the Indian market with the launch of Panda. Since Fiat has its own mulitjet engine, a Panda with a 1.3L diesel engine will the perfect recipe. The Panda might not only beat Wagon R but also give a serious dent to the Ritz diesel as well.

     We await your valuable opinions…

Third Generation Fiat Panda revealed

The third generation Fiat Panda has been revealed before its international debut at Frankfurt Motor Show which is starting from September 11th 2011. The new Panda has been describe as more matured compared to its preceder.

The new Panda has a bold front end with rounded hood and prominent air intake. The overall dimensions of the new Panda are measures 3650mm long, 1640mm wide and 1550mm tall.

The new Fiat Panda has been designed by Fiat styling director Roberto Giolito. The interiors have carried the same rectangular theme as from the outside with everything from horn, the dash, the gear knob and even the dials being rectangular. The roof rails enhance the Panda’s sporty look. The tail lamps are placed high like that of the Punto.

Thought the Panda is built on the Fiat 500 platform, it is a 5 door vehicle by default unlike the ‘500’. 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine is available. The latest technologically advanced 900cc multi air engine, which powers the ‘500’ will find its place under the Panda as well. The other petrol engine is the 1.2L 4 cylinder one with 69-75 Bhp of power. The 1.3L multijet diesel with 75 Bhp of power makes Panda, the desired vehicle.

It will be available in manual as well an automatic Dualogic robotised transmission. The other latest features include brand new “Blue&Me-TomTom LIVE”, large transparent electric “Skydome” sun roof, a Hi-Fi system with CD/MP3 player, 4 airbags (front and window), ABS complete with BAS (Brake Assist System), Daytime Running Lights and Dualdrive electric power steering with “City” function.
