Third Generation Indica on the drawing boards

     Its was just about 2 years ago that Tata Motors launched the Second Genration of Indica hatch 'Vista' in India and the Thrid Generation Indica hatch is already on the drawing boards. The Third Generation Indica will be based on the Fiat platform, probably on the Punto and will be simultaneously in India as well as UK. The design work is being done by Italian design house Pinninfarina in which Tata has a considerable share.

Mahindra launches Scorpio automatic in Egypt

     Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has launched an automatic transmission variant of its popular vehicle Scorpio in Egypt. The automatic Scorpio sports a 2.2 litre mHawk engine mated to a 6 speed automatic gearbox.

     Mahindra launched the Scorpio in Egypt in 2008 in association with Bavarian Auto Group. The Bavarian Auto Group also assembles and distributes other automotive brands in Egypt.

VW rolls out 11,111,111th Polo

     Currently world’s largest automobile manufacturer Volkswagen rolls out its 11,111,111th Polo from its Indian plant at Chakan Pune. The milestone car was rolled out with the presence of German President Horst Kohler.


     VW has invested around Rs 3800 crores at its massive plant at Chakan Pune. The construction of the plant was stared in the march 2009 and production of the first Polo was started in December same year.

Mercedes Benz launches new S class variants – S350L and S350 CDI BlueEfficiency

German luxury car manufacturer Merecedes Benz has launched two new variants of its top end luxury saloon S Class – S350L and S350 CDI BlueEfficiency. The two variants are priced at Rs 82 lakh and Rs 80.5 lakh respectively (ex-showroom New Delhi).


The S350L is powered by a 3498cc petrol engine with max power output of 272bhp at 6300rpm and 345Nm of torque at 4500rpm and can do a top speed of 250kmph. The kreb weight of the car is 1944kg with a permissible gross weight of the vehicle of 2535kg. It has a wheel base of 3165mm and a turning radius of 12.2m.

The S350CDI BlueEfficiency is powered by a 2987 diesel motor with max power output of 210bhp at 4000rpm and 490Nm of Torque at 1600-1800rpm. The S350CDI has almost similar specifications of that of its petrol sibling with wheelbase of 3165mm and 12.2m of turing radius, though the kerb weight of the diesel car is litter higher at 2005kg and permissible gross weight of 2585kg.The diesel S can also do a top speed of 250kmph.

Bajaj auto gets European patent for ExhausTEC innovation

     Indian second largest two wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto announced that it has been awarded an European Patent for its innovation on exhaust system ExhausTEC. Bajaj already holds an Indian patent for this technology and has already sold over 5 million vehicles with this technology since 2004.

     Bascially ExhausTEC increases the torque at low engine speeds (low rpm). This technology is responsible for the great pick up seen in the Pulsar at the end of 2nd gear.

     Extract – ExhausTEC is a device incorporated in exhaust system. ‘TEC’ stands for ‘Torque Expansion Chamber’. This world-first technology developed by Bajaj Auto improves the ‘Scavenging’ process. The exhaust system has this revolutionary feature incorporated, which drastically improves engine torque at low revs without compromising anything at mid or high engine revs. It has been extensively optimized to get the maximum possible performance out of the engine. The Silencer also has a characteristic tonal quality to it. It gives out a pleasant sounding low frequency ‘boom’ sound.

Maruti overtakes Suzuki

      For the first time in the history, Maruti Udyog Ltd has overtaken its parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation in terms of number of vehicle produced. In 2009 Maruti Udyog rolled out 9,66,399 units as compared to Suzuki Motor Corporation's 9.08,302 units. 8,36,893 cars produced by Maruti were sold in India and the rest were exported. Maruti A Star was the biggest contributor to the overseas sales. India Alto topped the list with 2,40,000 cars followed by Wagon R with 1,40,000 cars sold.

Ford Figo - Variants, Colours, Features & Specifications

Variants:

     3 variants will be available – base, mid and high end called ‘Platinum’. A Titanium variant as an optional will also be on offer as high end plus.

Colours:

     Seven colours will be available - Diamond white, Panther black, Moondust silver, Chille, Sea grey, Squeeze and Colorad red.

Features:

     Safety features include ABS with EBD and twin airbags. In the comfort zone there is height adjustable driver seat, large glove box with lid, integrated MP3 player with bluetooth connectivity and an aux port and central locking. Other features available are includes dash mounted button operated boot control, programmable remote locking system, flip-fold down rear seat, lane departure signal and motorcycle inspired instrument panel.

Specifications:

     There will be two engine options for the Figo, a 1.2L petrol with max power of 70bhp at 6250rpm and a max torque of 104Nm at 4000rpm and a 1.4L (Duratorq) with max power of 68bhp at 4000rpm and 160Nm of max torque at 2000rpm.Both the engines are coupled with iB5 manual transmission.


     The Figo dimensions qualify for the small car exercise duty in India. The Figo is 3795mm long, 1908mm wide and 1227mm tall. The Ford company claims Figo has the longest wheels base in its class with 2498mm. All the three variants will be equipped with 175/65R14 radial tyres with 14” steel wheels, however there is no alloy option even in the top end variant. Braking is done by disc at front and drum at the rear. McPherson strut does the duty in the front where as the rear suspension gets a twisted beam one. Fuel capacity is 45 liters ensuring a longer drive for the customers. Figo comes with excellent cabin space and 284 liters of boot space.
